זיקוק האטמוספרות, כך חפא אמר לי, הוא אולי ענף התעשייה הגדול ביותר בכל פדרציית חלל, ומזקקי אטמוספרות, שמטרתם לאפשר לכל אחד בפדרציה להתקיים גם כשהוא מגיע לפלנטה שהאטמוספרה השולטת בה רעילה לכלי הנשימה שלו, נמצאים במבנים בכל מיני צורות וגדלים, ישנם מזקקים הנמצאים בבועות ענק שמשתרעות על שטח עצום, הנפוצים ביותר הם אלה שנמצאים בבקבוקים נטענים, הללו נמצאים בכל חלק מציוד החובה של כל נוסע בחלל. בקבוק שיש בתוכו מזקק אטמוספרות אוטומטי, השואב חומרים מן מן האטמוספירה בכל כוכב שהנוסע מגיע אליו, והופך אותם לנוזלים ראויים לשתייה, ששתייתם בדרך כלל שומרת על הגוף מהחומרים הרעילים (לא בכל המקומות זה מספיק, לכן ישנו גם השתל הקטן שרבים נושאים איתם באף/פתח הנשימה, שמחדיר את המזקק אל תוך הגוף, אני פשוט לא סבלתי אותו).
מומלץ ללכת לכל מקום לפחות עם שניים כאלה, ולהשאיר את כל הבקבוקים פתוחים בלילה, לפני השינה, באוויר הפתוח.

Alternative History Dictionary – Rechargeable Bottle

Atmospheric refining, as Chapa told me, is perhaps the largest industrial sector in any space federation. Atmospheric refiners—designed to allow everyone in the Federation to survive even when arriving at a planet whose dominant atmosphere is toxic to their respiratory system—come in structures of all shapes and sizes. There are refiners built into massive bubbles spanning vast areas, but the most common are those housed in rechargeable bottles, which are an essential part of every space traveler's required gear.

These bottles contain an automatic atmospheric refiner that draws materials from the atmosphere of whichever planet the traveler lands on, converting them into drinkable liquids. Drinking these liquids generally protects the body from toxic substances (though it isn't sufficient everywhere—which is why many also carry the tiny implant in their nose/respiratory opening that inserts the refiner directly into the body, a device I simply couldn't stand).

It is recommended to carry at least two of these bottles wherever you go, and to leave all bottles open in the fresh air at night before going to sleep.
