לשכת החיבור בין חושך לחושך

היא תמיד נמצאת שם.

קשה לראות אותה, כי הרי היא נמצאת במקומות שבהם החושך מתחבר, ושם הכי קשה לחפש ושם גם אף אחד לא רוצה.

התפקיד התמידי שלה הוא לעדכן את רשימות אלה שלא ייכנסו. שלא יבואו בקהל. יש לה אישור מן המקרא, מאותן הפרשות העוסקות במי ש"לא יבוא בכלל ישראל". אבל לא רק 'דתיים' מצויים בעובדי הלשכה, שבכח מעמדה היא רשות. זאת אומרת שבכל מעשיה יש לה גיבוי מהמדינה.

אולי לא כל אחד מגיע לידי הלשכה, במשך תקופות הגיעו-הסתננו לארץ המונים שלא עברו תחת ידה (לא מתכוון דווקא ל'זרים'). אבל יש לזכור שמכיוון שבפולחן החיבור בין חושך לחושך נולד, גם בכל מעשיה של הלשכה יש מימד של פולחן. עצם הבחירה בקורבן להדרה היא חלק מהאקט הפולחני, שבוודאי גם גורם ליושבים בלשכה איזה ריגוש. אולי גם הפחד לצאת מחוץ לחושך הבטוח אל האור החושפני גורמים לפרופיל הפעילות להיות נמוך לפעמים.

החשוב הוא שהמדינה מגדלת את זה. אולי גם שרים ופקידי ממשלה מקבלים ריגוש מהחור השחור שהמדינה מגדלת אותו, תמיד.

כמו שהיא גידלה את מפעל ההתנחלויות, עליו אנחנו כבר יודעים, מתחילים לדעת.

לשכת החיבור בין חושך לחושך אינה בורה. דווקא יש בה התעניינות במדעים. מדעים שיכולים לסייע לה להסתיר את עצמה, להגיע לכל אחד, ולשלוט בגורלו של כל אחד. להיות אלוהים ולדאוג שמה שקבעו אי פעם, יישמר. יתכן שהיא גם מספקת, תמורת מידע מדעי, בשר לניסוייהם של מדענים, שהגיעו כבר אל תחומים של אופל גלקטי שמחוץ לגבול ה'ידוע קבוע'.

קצת מחוץ לחושך, יש ועדות שקובעות את מי להפקיר לחושך, בלימבו שבין החור השחור לבין אותו מרחב שקצת מחוץ לחושך. הועדות קובעות 'רשימות מוגנים'. לפעמים הועדות גם ממליצות ללשכת החיבור את מי לקחת אליהן, כשהן מגלות בשר איכותי. קצת כמו היחסים האפשריים בין הלשכה והמדענים. יתכן שחלק מאלה יושבים גם באלה ובאלה.

הוועדות מתחלפות לפעמים, על פי שינויים פוליטיים. חלק מיושבי הועדות מייצגים כביכול את המועמדים לחיסול, וגורמים להם להרגיש בטעות שיש מישהו שדואג להם.

בשנים האחרונות, מכיוון שראש הממשלה הוא חסלן, כלומר מאמין בעצמו, כמו הלשכה, בדת חסלנית ("האליטות", וכן אלה שלא יורים ולא מכניסים למדינה כסף) וכן כמה משריו (כמו שר הבטחון), הלשכה של החיבור בין חושך לחושך מקבלת תזרימים ומרימה ראש, בעיקר דרך אלי ישי. תמיד כמעט זה קורה כשממשלת ליכוד עולה, אבל שלא תהיה טעות, הלשכה קיימת שם כבר קודם.

איפה יושבים משרדי הלשכה? קרוב, מן הסתם, למשרדי הממשלה, ואולי גם בקירבה למקום שבו יתכן פיתוח מדעי בחושך.

The Bureau for the Connection Between Darkness and Darkness is always there.

It is difficult to see, for it resides precisely where the darknesses merge—where searching is most arduous, and where no one wishes to look.

Its perpetual mandate is to update the rosters of those who shall not enter—those forbidden from coming into the assembly. It claims biblical sanction, drawing authority from those scriptures detailing who "shall not enter the congregation of Israel." Yet the Bureau's operatives are not merely the devout; by virtue of its stature, the Bureau operates as an authority unto itself. Which is to say: every action it takes carries the full backing of the state.

Perhaps not everyone falls into the Bureau's grasp. Over various eras, multitudes have entered and slipped into the land without passing through its hands (and I do not mean only "foreigners"). But one must remember that because the Bureau was born of the ritual of connecting darkness to darkness, a ritual dimension permeates its every act. The very selection of a victim for exclusion is part of this ceremonial act—one that undoubtedly affords those sitting in the Bureau a certain thrill. Perhaps, too, the fear of stepping out from the safe shadows into the exposing light causes its operational profile to remain low at times.

What matters is that the state nurtures it. Perhaps ministers and government officials likewise derive a thrill from this black hole that the state continuously cultivates—always.

Just as it cultivated the settlement enterprise—a reality we now know, or are beginning to realize.

The Bureau for the Connection Between Darkness and Darkness is by no means ignorant. On the contrary, it maintains an active interest in the sciences—specifically those sciences that can aid it in concealing its presence, reaching anyone, and controlling individual destiny. To play God, ensuring that whatever was once decreed remains intact forever. It is quite possible that, in exchange for scientific intelligence, it provides human flesh for the experiments of scientists who have already ventured into realms of galactic darkness beyond the boundary of the "known and fixed."

Slightly outside the darkness, committees convene to determine who shall be abandoned to the shadows, cast into the limbo between the black hole and that outer boundary. These committees establish "lists of the protected." Occasionally, upon discovering prime specimens, they recommend subjects to the Bureau. It resembles the potential synergy between the Bureau and the scientific establishment; indeed, certain individuals likely hold seats in both.

These committees shift periodically in response to political realignments. Some committee members ostensibly represent those slated for liquidation, falsely reassuring them that someone is watching over their welfare.

In recent years—given that the Prime Minister is a liquidator who, like the Bureau, subscribes to a ideology of elimination (targeting "the elites," as well as those who neither shoot nor bring capital into the state), flanked by key ministers—the Bureau for the Connection Between Darkness and Darkness has enjoyed renewed cash flows and raised its head, notably through Eli Yishai. This almost invariably occurs whenever a Likud government comes to power; but make no mistake, the Bureau was already thriving long before.

Where are the Bureau's offices located? Nearby, in all likelihood, to the government ministries, and perhaps in close proximity to sites where scientific developments can be pursued in the dark.
