לפני השקיעה

א. כוכב בגין
בין 1974 ל1977 זעם העם ורעב לנקם, וגם אחרי עליית הליכוד שהענישה את ממסד מפ"אי ו'האשכנזים' התאווה שיש הרואים בה תאווה לצדק נמשכה.
כדי להשביע אותה ולהחזיר את הסדר והיציבות שגם שלטון חדש זקוק לו אל המדינה, תוך ריצוי הסגנים וסגני הסגנים, ניתנה להם רשימת קורבנות "לטפל" בהם, רובם מן המעמד הבינוני שלא חטאו בכלום וגם כאלה שלא יכלו לחטוא, אבל אותם קל לתפוס, ולעשות על גבם דילים והסדרים. אולי עוד ייחקר וייכתב בזה.
חלק מאלה הצליחו להגיע בעוד מועד אל האיזורים – מתחמים מוגנים שקמו עוד בשנים הקודמות, מוקפים בחומה טלפתית שהוכנה למלחמת עולמות, שם סודרו להם מקומות כולל עבודה נוחה בצבא. מן המתחמים האלה הם עברו אחר כך לאיזורים-מתחמים חדשים עד היום, בהם אין מתים לעולם, אולי גם לא חיים.
אלה שלא הגיעו בעוד מועד ופגשו את הטיפול נשברו, השתגעו או נהיו לאחרים.
חלק מהם גילו את עצמם מחדש כחייזרים (מילה שלא היתה קיימת אז, אז אמרו "אנשי חלל"). בארץ זרה, בכוכב חדש, תוהים ובוהים מה הם עושים בו, בעצם. עד היום.

ב. לפני השקיעה, השוט, המלחמה
ובכל פעם במחזוריות, עולה השוט ומעניש, את אלה שלא אשמים. הקורבנות מתחלפים, ויש שחוזרים בבחירות, במלחמה, או שניהם. בגין ניצח שוב כשהאוניברסיטה עברה לחשכת הר הצופים, ואחר כך היתה מלחמת לבנון הראשונה. והאינתיפאדה הראשונה, ורצח רבין, וביבי הראשון.
ותמיד לפני שזה קורה יש איזה זמן שבו השמש בהירה יותר מכרגיל, חמה כאילו ממיסה חומות מתחמים מוגנים אבל כבר ישנה הבגידה, יש מי שמוסרים מתוך תקוה לחלץ את עצמם מסרט ההפחדה והרדיפה ולהיות ברשימת המוגנים, ויבוא האחר תחתיהם ותמיד יימצאו טקסטים להאדיר את המעשה. ותמיד יהיה מי שידע להפחיד, להסיט להסית ולהטעות גם את הקרובים.
ואחר כך השמש כבר לא רלוונטית כאשר לילה, אזור שאין בו שמשות וכולם שווים. לאפס. גם אלה שבתוך המתחמים-האיזורים וגם אלה שבחוץ. הם מפחדים.
ואחר כך כשזה עובר, שוב, כל האגואים יעלו.

A. Begin’s Planet
Between 1974 and 1977 the people raged and hungered for revenge, and even after the Likud’s rise—which punished the Mapai establishment and “the Ashkenazim”—the lust that some see as a lust for justice persisted.
To satiate it and restore the order and stability that even a new regime needs in the state, while appeasing the deputies and the deputies’ deputies, they were handed a list of victims “to handle.” Most were from the middle class who had sinned in nothing, and some who could not possibly have sinned, but they were easy to catch and to strike deals and arrangements on their backs. Perhaps it will yet be researched and written about. Some of them managed to reach the Zones in time—protected enclaves that had been built in previous years, surrounded by a telepathic wall prepared for a war of worlds—where places were arranged for them, including comfortable jobs in the army. From those enclaves they later moved to new Zone-enclaves, up to this day, in which no one ever dies—perhaps they do not live either. Those who did not reach in time and met the treatment were broken, driven mad, or became others.
Some of them rediscovered themselves as aliens (a word that did not exist then, so they said “space people”). In a foreign land, on a new planet, wondering and staring at what they are actually doing there. To this day.

B. Before Sunset, the Whip, the War
And every time, cyclically, the whip rises and punishes those who are not guilty. The victims rotate, and some return in elections, in war, or both. Begin won again when the university moved to the darkness of Mount Scopus, and then there was the First Lebanon War. And the First Intifada, and the murder of Rabin, and the first Bibi. And always, before it happens, there is a period when the sun is brighter than usual, hot as if melting the walls of protected enclaves, but the betrayal is already there—there are those who inform in the hope of extracting themselves from the fear-and-persecution film and joining the list of the protected, and another will take their place, and there will always be texts to glorify the act. And there will always be someone who knows how to frighten, to divert, to incite, and to deceive even the closest. And afterward the sun is no longer relevant when night falls—an area with no suns where everyone is equal. To zero. Both those inside the Zone-enclaves and those outside. They are afraid. And afterward, when it passes, again, all the egos will rise.

I wonder whether the list of victims in this description does not fit the Labor (and the Kadima government during whose term the post was written—functionally a Labor government in the style of 1974–76) governments better than a Likud government. Because the Kadima-Labor-style list is chosen opportunistically-cynically, whereas the right-wing method of choosing victims also reflects the government’s belief and its revolutionary-annihilationist agenda/ideology and that of its loyalists. That the same people might appear on both lists is another matter, isn’t it?
